Japanese population starts to slide

This is where things will start to get interesting. Japan will have two choices - either accept a shrinking economy as more people retire and the rest of the population has to support them, or open up to more immigration, which is something that Japan is famously reluctant to do. Either way, my job is secure. Parents with only one child will spend more moeny on them, sending them to English lessons, and retirees with nothing to do will take up English just to keep their brains humming along.

That's something I've noticed, actually - old people stay really, really active over here. I don't hear much about people who retire and then move down to Kyuushu to live in a gated retirement community. They find something to do, whether it's traditional arts, learning English, community work or whatever. Probably why they live so long....
