wish, hope, life

Goberu goberu....

Well, I had a low key Thanksgiving over here. Turkey is hard to come by, so I had an iconic Japanese food - noodles. Those weird crunchy kind that you get with a kind of seafood stew splooged on top. I know, sounds nasty, but it tasted good. And I went out to the public baths for the first time in a while. It was quite nice, especially the outdoor bath - hot water, cold air, steam rising off the skin.... I went into the sauna for the first time, and remembered why I don't like saunas. It felt like all the exposed mucous membranes on my body were on fire - lips, eyes, nostrils.... The rest of me was okay, but that persistant stinging sensation drove me out again pretty quickly.

And now I have the day off. My mom called, and I got to talk to her, and my stepfather and the Stateside Siblings. Very nice. The weather is good, so I should really try to take advantage and see if I can hit a temple or two. Or do the traditional American thing and go shopping...

Anyway, here goes - I'm thankful for my family, who I will get to see very soon. I'm thankful for my friends, for remembering that I'm out here. I'm thankful for my boyfriend, who's made life here a lot easier. I'm thankful for my job, and my house, and the fact that I live in a kickass city that people around the world dream of visiting. I'm thankful for the internet, for letting me stay in touch with the folks back home. I have a lot to be thankful for.... Rock on.
